On Friday 20th April President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabine visited Mercy College. The President was warmly greeted by the gathered school assembly and invited guests. The choir sang and musicians played to welcome the Presidential party. The President addressed the students and spoke of the importance of education, the Irish language and the arts in education. He then visited the recently opened Aonad Loch Gile in the school to meet the students and teachers there. Following that, he planted a tree in the interior school garden before going on a tour of the school visiting the Art, Business, Technology and Science rooms before viewing the displayed projects and the Hall of Fame. President Higgins then attended a reception in the school Atrium. The gathered school assembly and guests were deeply appreciative of the honour bestowed on the school by the presidential visit and wish to thank him for taking the time out of his very busy national and international schedules to spend time with us at Mercy College.
