Early Childhood Care and Education 5M2009

This is a one year full-time course designed to provide students with essential skills and a well recognised qualification to work in the Childcare sector. Students are qualified to go directly into work or progress to further education

Entry requirements: 

Leaving Cert or Leaving Cert applied. Mature students may also apply. Interview also required. All students are required to have Garda Clearance.

A new ONLINE ONLY student grant application system has been introduced
for the 2012/2013 academic year. All NEW applications will be made online
to a single awarding authority, SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland),through www.studentfinance.ie

Fees: 

Students pay a fee which covers registration, examination fees, course materials, administration, and additional certification. Precise details available on request.

Work Experience: Students are placed by the college in a suitable setting working with 0-6 year  olds for a period of 4 weeks

Course duration:1 year Full-time. September – May 

Career prospects: 

Progression

Through the Higher Education Links Scheme (H.E.L.S.) and the Pilot Scheme graduates may progress to a variety of college degree courses e.g. Social Studies: Sligo I.T., Athlone I.T., Early Childhood Degree: Sligo I.T., Social Science: NUI Maynooth. Early Childhood Studies: Carlow, Early Childhood Care & Education: D.I.T., B.S.C. in Education & Training, DCU.

Students with full FETAC Level 5 Certification may progress to a level 6 Supervision in Childcare course- They may also apply to a range of Higher Education Institutions through the Higher Education Links Scheme.
