Students attend Launch of Project Ireland 2040 plan at I.T.Sligo

Twenty six students from Mercy College attended the Launch of the Project Ireland 2040 plan at Sligo Institute of Technology on Friday last.They were front seat guests in the Knocknarea Arena and Grace Filan and Erin Battell questioned the Ministers from the floor re plans for education and rural Ireland.

Musical Madness

Following months of rehearsals after school , at weekends and even during the holidays, the show Musical Madness took to the stage in Summerhill College on 22nd January and continued for three nights with matinees during the day for the local primary schools.

German Exchange

On New Year's morning 24 students from 2nd , 3rd and Transition Year departed for Dublin airport accompanied by Ms Bourke  and Ms Harte. We flew to Munich and travelled onwards to Sligo's twin town of Kempten in the Allgau area of Germany. There we saw fields of snow and on the next day we travelled to the ski resort of Ofterschwang  and the Toni Karg ski school to begin our skiing lessons.A good day was had by all and we were surprised as to how quickly we adapted to the huge ski boots and walking on skis!

Brexit talk for C.S.P.E. Students

Junior Cert. CSPE students attended a talk on Brexit on Monday 18th December at the Glasshouse Hotel Sligo.The event was organised by Mr Ultan McNasser ,Europe Direct Office Sligo. The informative lecture was delivered by Mr Francis Jacobs , head of he Europe Direct Information Office Dublin 2006-2016. Mr Jacobs outlined the history of Britain's involvement with the E.U. and the various political views , that eventually led to Brexit.

Christmas Carol Service

The annual Christmas carol service took place on Friday 15th December in the school gym.Students , staff, retired staff , Board of Management members and representatives of our designated charities were in attendance.Students presented the story of Christmas in a meaningful manner with readings, prayers and a slideshow of inspiring images.The school choir under the direction of Ms McIntyre and accompanied by Mr Leonard Dorrian sang well known carols and brought a truly genuine Christmas atmosphere to the ceremony.Hampers collected by students and staff were presented to members of Sligo Soci

Aonad Loch Gile Official Opening

The official opening of Aonad Loch Gile took place on Friday December 1st.The opening was performed by Minister for the Gaeltacht and Rural Affairs Joe McHugh T.D. Marian Harkin M.E.P. , Tony McLoughlin T.D. And Eamon Scanlon T.D. were also in attendance as well as members of the committee who had campaigned for the all Irish secondary school over the past number of years.
