M.E.P. Marian Harkin visits MercyCollege

M.E.P. Marian Harkin visited MercyCollege to address the students taking part in the Euroscola in Strasbourg on May 26th.The students are taking part in the new pilot European ambassador programme for schools.Marian explained the workings of the Commission and E.U. Parliament and outlined the life and work of an M.E.P.This was followed by a question and answer session on topics such as independence, civil liberties,migrants,youth unemployment and protection of the environment.

First year basketball team won the All Ireland semi final in Kiltimagh on Saturday last. They now proceed to the All Ireland Finals in Dublin. We wish them the best of luck.

Congratulations to the First Year Basketball Team who defeated Killybegs in the Regional Final at Sligo Sports complex. They now progress to the All Ireland Play-Offs and we wish them the best of luck.

Students who wish to attend Euroscola in Strasbourg are requested to bring a letter applying for same and a permission slip from their  parents/guardians as well as 140 Euro. The remainder of the cost will be paid by the European Union.Places are limited.The topics for discussion on the day are 

1 How can we promote sustainable development?

2. Can we place limitations on human rights if security is at risk?

3. What should the European Union's policy be on development ?
