Congratulations to Mackenzie Ellwood , Emily Gaine and Hannah Scanlon who won the Europe Day debating competition held in Sligo County Council Chambers on Europe Day. The motion under discussion was" Volunteering makes a difference "and Mercy College proposed the motion . Sligo Grammar School opposed the motion. Cathaoirleach Hubert Keaney welcomed the audience and chaired the debate.Matt Carthy MEP spoke on a day in the life of an MEP and on the workings of the EU .He then presented the winning team with the EU Direct Trophy. Adjudicators were Mayor of Sligo Councillor Marie Casserly , Ronnie Gillanders Sligo Toastmasters and Catherine Rowse, Volunteering Ireland. The Europe Direct Office and Ultan Mc Nassor organised and coordinated the debate.
